An amazing female-led team ran a House Takeover for International Women’s Day, with a full programme of events including talks, music and guest chefs
White City House hosted a female-led site takeover for International Women’s Day on 8 March 2019. A full programme of events ran from 7am until 3pm, #poweredbywomen from across Soho House’s UK sites.
Guest chef Masha Rener of Lina Stores served a dinner of Italian food including handmade pappardelle with veal ragù, rosemary and sage, while Palestinian guest chef Joudie Kalla served a feast including za’atar chicken, muttabal and moussaka.
Led by AGM Anna Piacentini, the existing WCH team were joined by around 50 women (and feminist men) from other Soho House sites for the day. Floor staff wore a T-shirt designed by in-house style designer Charlotte Barrett, while our female chefs tried out PolkaPants, trousers designed for women working in kitchens. Ahead of the day our female bartenders competed to create a Woodford Reserve cocktail for the day, with the top three served at the evening event.
Laura Mvula performed a gig to launch a new musical collaboration with her sister, followed by a DJ set from Pxssy Palace. Daytime events included comedy by Femmes of Colour and talks from GRL PWR GANG and the women’s march organiser Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu.
The artist Fiona Hawthorne created an artwork based on the day and members, guests and staff were offered Cowshed massages and nail art by HOLM (House of Lady Muck).
