The Beach House becomes an art house

Elizabeth Huey has just completed a week-long residency at the Soho Beach House in Miami. House Four exclusively interviews her about her work and stay with us

Artist Elizabeth Huey describes her work as “engaged with the interplay of water on humankind’s health and happiness”. So the Soho Beach House in Miami was an obvious choice for a recent, week-long residency.

During her week with us, Elizabeth conducted a collage workshop as well as hosting a sunset watercolor class and a costume pool party. “I also built shapes out of cardboard and painted them in bright colors to materialise a dream I had of rectangles and squares swimming in the pool,” she explains. Marketing manager Jordana Mesner and the rest of the Miami team made sure Elizabeth was taken care of.

For an artist, a residency like this is a great way to get inspiration, she explains. “I can spend days in my studio painting and looking at photos without ever experiencing life or the imagery I’m working from.  The Beach House provided me with an opportunity I will never forget. With its multiple pools and ocean views, I had the privilege of watching people intermingle with water, Miami’s cyclothymic weather and dramatic sunsets. I left feeling refreshed and inspired.”
