It’s International Housekeeping Week! Housekeeping support manager Ian Nieuwoudt explains why it’s important to recognise this happy and hardworking team, and shares pictures of HSK treats around the world
While they may spend their time working behind the scenes, this week we are putting our housekeeping staff across Soho House in the spotlight.
International Housekeepers Week runs 10-16 September this year and is a chance to focus attention and recognition on all our housekeepers who maintain a clean, safe and healthy environment at Soho House.
I always say that housekeeping is the backbone of a hotel, and the key people behind its success. Without their dedication, “yes yes yes” attitude and attention to detail we would never have so many happy and satisfied guests.
To thank these special people for all their hard work, our sites around the world have organised a week of celebrations. They include team breakfasts, dinners and afternoon teas; gym classes; bowling and cinema trips; raffles and goodie bags; and daily surprises like flowers, sweets and gifts in the Houses.
Soho House Istanbul came up with the ingenious idea of holding a Housekeeping Olympics, which has been the most fun we’ve ever had in a training event. Housekeepers competed in time trials to make the perfect bed or stock amenities, mopping a floor and so on, with prizes and lots of happy faces at the end.
A little appreciation goes a long way, especially when the work is so important and affects everyone. Kudos to all of the kings and queens of housekeeping!
